From The Bronze Age to The Modern World

I know the title is a bit exaggerating; okay way much exaggerating. Anyway, i very happy because i finally got a camera-phone which is fairly reasonable. Maybe very reasonable to some. Parents and I went up and down Wisma Saberkas to look at all the handphone models. After a tiring afternoon of searching , i finally make my last choice at Yew Telecommunications which is at the ground floor. Very cheap and reasonable prices. I recommend those who need a handphone now to get them there because comparatively you can get Rm10-20 cheaper than other shops in Wisma Saberkas. Anyway, my parents believe in functionality of the phone which is to sms and call. They find bluetooth, camera, etc not necessary and yet my dad uses a Nokia 3230. Not fair!

Like normal parents they find the cheapest but also good lar. So what did i get, you may ask? I got a Sony Ericsson K510i. A model that came out 2 years ago. Its good just that no extendable memory card function lor. It has only 28mb space. Sad.... I wanted a SE K550i or K610i but parent lor. But still i must give my thanks to them for finally having my own PERSONAL handphone. Hurrah!

Parents and Thoughts~

Its been awhile since i last blog . Not much activity to report but anyway i am beginning to fall in love with jazz music again. Ahh~

Oh yah, one announcement;correct me if am wrong. Green Road School Band would be having an open performance this Friday night/noon as they would be competing soon during the month of June. Its to prepare them to face the crowd. There would be spotlights[if it's at night] and NO they don't have glow in the dark uniforms. So please come this Friday night/noon[hopefully i can too] . For more details, ask Christine. Don't worry , its free of charge.

Back to the main post.

Just a day ago i realize that some/many people have this problem. We always call someone by the wrong name and try correcting it but in the end calling someone else's name. Like our brain is confuse or something.

Situation #1

I am alone in my house
Mom: Ivan, come here!!!! ummmm i mean Lavender!!! 0o0o0ops! I mean Anders come here and help me!
Me : =.=

Situation #2
Still alone in the house

Mom: IVANANDERS! come here~
Me: Where's Ivan leh?
Mom: I mean You~
Me: =.=

I find it strange cause most parents i've met are also like that. I wonder what kind of disorder is that. Haha. My mom can't shake of this habit. But wait sometimes they get into weird mixture of situations.

Situation #3

Mom: Go bathe right now and bring down the washing machine!!!
Me: *shock* huh??? the WASHING MACHINE IS UPSTAIRS MEH??!!
Mom: I mean put your clothes into the washing machine and then bring down the vacuum cleaner.
Me: oh~

Haha. Life in a house and family are always fun and funny.
How about you, have you ever experienced this situations~???

P/s: i might delay some post as i have some new designing project to do. Yipee!

Peer Pressure. Labuan , And KL

Lately, i've been bombarded with emo post among my GRSS friends. If you didn't know, Andeline aka Ahma is gonna leave for Labuan soon. She's furthering her study there under MAMAK[Malaysian Matrikulasi]. Due to peer pressure, i am gonna write a short dedication for her

Thinking back, i first knew about Ahma was in the year 2005. I was tagging along with Ivan Tan[partner in crime] and he would scream "ANDELINE!" everytime they met. During that time, i just remembered her face and name .

In 2006, she was in my class and i get to know her more through Min Zhi. Soon we all clique and form a gang consisting majority of 4H students. Ahma i known for being the happy-go-lucky type in the gang. Never emo(i think) and always cracking jokes. She also constantly sms-ing and exchanging goodness no what of Mandarin music and paraphernalia with her friends.

Andeline got the name "Ahma" because of her mental capability to memorise Mandarin Proverbs. Everytime there is a situation, she would cite a Chinese Proverb mainly to Min Zhi. Haha. Usually only older folks would do that hence the nickname was given. Additional to that, she also walks like one. Haha.

Overall, she is a very good friend indeed and i am sure the rest feel that way too. Ahma is considered the pillar of the group as she always encourages us with her own antics and style. Andeline is also my "sifu", we promised each other that i will teacher her English and she would teach me Mandarin. Though i did correct her grammar many many times, she didn't really teach me mandarin (hehe). BUT i did improve my vocabulary as she always communicates with Kelvin and Min Zhi in Mandarin. Hence, i am able to understand majority of words Mandarin Drama now. Haha.

I remember also talking with her about the latest Singapore Drama and we would discussed about it. Her happy attitude did get her into trouble before. For example, Cikgu Nor Hananie our biology teacher, did ask her why she smiles so much and would ask her questions regarding biology. Cikgu regards smiling in class means not paying attention to her. Haha. Anyway, i happen to stumble about a biography of Ahma!

Name: Andeline aka Ahma
Age: 117 Year old
Height: 5 foot err....shorter than Anders but taller than Nichol [hehe]
Birthday: July 1st 1990
Favourite Song : Negaraku
Favourite Food : Ahma's food
Favourite Singer : Yan Ya Lun of Fahrenheit
Favourite clothes: School Uniform

Yeah i know, a lame attempt from Anders. But Ahma is about lameness too. Below are some pictures i happen to have but never post them. A bit blur but blame my camera . No parental discretion is advised. This was during our gathering at Pizza Hut.

A blurred Qadya, Doris and Ahma ordering food

A "sudden" look from Ahma

Ahma photographing me.

If i am not mistaken the gathering was done after SPM. OH well, at least some recent photos. In conclusion, thank you Ahma for always being there for us as a very good friend. May you be blessed with health, wealth and a sharp mind when you're in Labuan. Remember to bring back Ferrero Rocher's!!! And visit us in Miri during your hols. Haha.

On a lighter note, Samuel Lis who went off for Banting is coming back for school holidays. Yipee!! Welcome back!! We certainly missed you.

Samuel and the "scrapbook of memories" we made for him.

Happy holidays everyone and Farewell Ahma!

P/s: Let me clarify somethings about the previous post. It was just meant to be a joke. I took a photo of it from the "free gift promotion " section. Hence, the "zero price tag". The story of me bringing it home and "paying" for it was a made up. Haha

Last but not least, a picture of Ahma's infatuation!!!!

May he be your other-half next time. Haha

*sarcastic* yeah right~ Haha

Induction Cooker

Last Monday, since it was a public holiday [in conjunction with Wesak Day], my family and I decided to enjoy ourselves at " The Spring Mall" after a hearty lunch at Country Court at Eastmoore[what a mouthful of words].

After and hour or so walking aimlessly around Parkson because of the supposedly on-going "Grand Sale" at the clothes department, i decided to follow my dad up to the car accessories section. Spend some time looking for a new car perfume as my nose is very sensitive. I can easily can get a headache after smelling strong artificial perfume. The closer it is to its natural scent[not the unpleasant ones], the better the perfume is.

I decided to walk through the "Cooking Section" which where my heart is. After browsing and admiring the artistic table decor i caught my eyes on this new red electrical induction cooker. The kind whereby a metal pot/wok/etc will heat up through infrared when in contact, allowing you to cook. I look at the price tag. I was shocked. It was SO CHEAP!. I blink and blink again so that i know my eyes aren't fooling me. The price tag remained the same. Hooray!

I immediately grabbed it and went to the counter to "pay" for it. Guess what's the price???!!!

That's RIGHT! And it is no mistake. Little did i know that Parkson was actually having a promotion during that day. There are giving free gifts and the lucky customers who found those "zero" price items can take it home. Cool huh!

Now the induction cooker is lying in my kitchen corner!!! Haha. Gonna try it out soon.

Disclaimer: The free gift is a total fiction. I am just pulling your leg. I am too kind to make a loss for Parkson. Anyone wants to try bringing it home? Look for Parkson Cooking section at "The Spring Mall"

Party!

Today is the Line Dance party!!!. Gonna dance all night.

Anyway, the shirt came out horribly wrong. Wrong colour, wrong shape, wrong pattern. Instead of pale purple it became grey. Instead of stars it became HEARTS!!! [for goodness sake, its more than feminine already!!!!] . Worse come to worse they "squared" the pattern. The shirts is suppose to be BLACK not BLUE! I'm depressed~
I shall never print my shirts there anymore. I am so gonna touch up the shirt next time.

Dancing off~

p/s: so much for popularity, got sharp decline in visitors on my blog.

National Intergration

Yesterday i played keyboard for the largest combined prayer meeting among churches[Trilingual=English+Mandarin+Malay]. More than 1500 people i guess. Certainly not up to 3000. And imagine more than half comes from Blessed Church. A prime example on how a church can be so united.

Anyway, last night was pretty interesting.

Someone A: [In Malay] Which church do you come from?
Me: Emmanuel Baptist Church
Someone A: Are you Iban?
Me: No...hehe. Saya orang Cina [i am chinese]

Me: Someone A just told me that i look like an Iban.
Someone B: Yeah, you really have some features like an Iban.
Me: But many people seems to say that i look more towards an Indian.
Someone B: YEAH HOR! You really look like an indian!
Me: Hehehe.....
Someone B: More like a CINDIAN[chinese +indian]!
Me:=.=

Conclusion: I am the prime example of national intergration. If i am an ambassador of Malaysia i can represent every tribe in Malaysia. That's national intergration . Haha!

I donno what my coloured skin will surprise me next.....

Updates~

Just about two days ago, my blog after about 2 months and a half or so have hits of more than 1000. Starting on Sunday, hits on my site went up to 50 visitors a day rather than the 8-20 visitors previously. Thank you so much for supporting!!! Its my dream to see at least red spots[on the map which shows where your visitors are from] all over the world. Haha.

Weeks ago, it had been only about 40 different locations who on the map. Today, it shot up to 75. An additional 30 different locations mainly coming from Europe and America. I love you people! haha. Malaysians[my friends], don't jealous lar, i must thank you for the biggest dot on the map. Haha.

Let's get back to the main topic shall we?

Update 1:

I already confirm my scholarship with Petronas for Geology. The guy officer said i would be going to Curtin Miri. If i do go there, i would be seeing Samuel Ng and Boon Yee Hsin! It would be another crazy time there. One of my Christian friend [Christine Dior's sister] Jezamine mention that her geologist friend earns a 10 figure salary in dollars if he works off-shore for a US company. Go figure!!! Working for only one month i can retire already . Haha

Update 2:

I didn't get the JPA scholarship because of the connection between Petronas and JPA. Petronas actually fight for their scholars you know. See, they so want us. However, i do want Biotechnology though a geologist pay is slightly much higher. On another note, geologist pay is highly dependent on the current economy. For now, i think a fresh graduate pay in US is 58 000 dollars[per month i think]. Money to help people or service to help people? Oh well, we'll see as the Lord leads.

Update 3:

I went for the teacher's interview yesterday which is called KPLSPM , Kursus Perguruan Lepas SPM[public examination] or in English, Teaching course for SPM leavers. I applied for biology. Basically its a path to become a teacher just that you are trained in the subject overseas for about 3-4 years till you get a degree. When you come back, there would be another interview to ensure that you really want to become a teacher and they will teach you the tricks of the trade to be one. I think, please correct me if i am wrong, if you flunk that interview they will let you off and you earn a free degree . Its a scholarship by the way.

Went there quite early at about 10 o'clock in the morning to the Teacher's College at Horizontal Rock at College Road. Saw a few familiar faces and quickly registered my name and went to the waiting room outside room YO1A. Met Diana Ling and Sze Wei Thing there who are both from Green Road too. Talked to Wei Thing more about courses, subjects, and scholarships. I only prepared for the interview like one night before. About 6 of us going for Biology. However four of them were in the 1st session [wei thing and Diana] . Leaving me and Wenda from Stampin. I think none of us were even preparing for the interview, everyone had their own agendas. Either texting, calling, chatting, or looking bored. The officer was very kind and proceed to get our documents

I went into the interview room at 10.30 am with a loud JIA YOU!!! from the greenians. Haha. Knock the door and i went in. Greeted them with a smile and sat down with permission. Mind you, they do not have any questions prepared. They look through your documents and your "statement of desires" or "Pernyataan Hasrat" to be a teacher. I hentam basically but in the end i manage to do a very good job in answering the questions.

Some questions were like this:
1. Introduce yourself
2. Achievements in your co-curriculum
3. The reasons why you like Biology
4. What would you do if you earn a degree in Biology but do not become a teacher
5. About your Biology teacher [i never said so many good qualities in a lifetime]
6. Values of a teacher
7.How would you teach Biology to make it more interesting
8.Questions from your "pernyataan hasrat", or "statement of your desires"
9.Recent issues in Malaysia[ namely rice issue]

Apparently i submitted the from without attaching a photo. Had to call my dad for it. While waiting , i went to sit for the INSAK test or Inventori Sahsiah Keguruan. Its like a psychology test to see whether you are suitable to be a teacher. Very silly questions but quite logical too. Most of it are based on situations and you can only choose A or B. No wrong or right answers, just which one is more suitable for that situation

Eg:

1.You are going to cook some instant noodles:
A. Just use the existing sauce
B Add more ingredients of your choice [Weird question right]

2. Your friend did something wrong :
A. You report it to the teacher
B. You warned or advised him [which one is right?]

I didn't expect those questions. Imagine 135 questions like those in 30 minutes. After that sat for an English assessment test . We have to write a 120 words essay [wrote longer that that for me] . Due to insufficient practice, i wrote the worst essay in my life. I sound like a teacher educating the primary school students about a balanced diet[my topic]. I feel your pain Kim, of not having enough time writing. On top of that, there are no lines and my handwriting wasn't the best that day, causing the words to be slanted at an angle. Oh well, at least no grammar mistakes.

Finally, went into the group interview session. Pathetically, they were only two of us. Sad , sad, sad......Her english wasn't very good causing me to be the highlight of the session. Our topic was sports. I feel like talking to a wall. Whatever i say, she echoes it back.

Eg:

Me: Sports is healthy cause you increase blood circulation when you exercise
Her: Yeah, i agree. Sports is healthy cause you increase blood circulation when you exercise.
*blinks blinks* tries to hint her to say her own points*

Me: Sports is important for tertiary education as it is a part of the student's co-curriculum.
Her: Yeah, you need sports to go for tertiary education because it is co-curriculum [broken English]
*interviewers were laughing silently*

This went on for about 10 minutes. Pity her and pity me. Anyway, i gave my passport sized photo when my dad came and i proceed to go home.

Update 4:

I went to SUPP in the afternoon to appeal for my JPA application. Waited for 50 minutes initially, because some lo-so lady kept on yakking at Mr.Ong non stop. Pity Mr.Ong. They were some people waiting there too. I think one boy from St.joseph, Voon Ka Kiong was there, and later Kershia who move to Kuching to study in St.Thomas was there too. After the lo-so[slang for talking excessively] , the St.Jo guy and mom went in! They cut the QUEUE . We already waited for 50 minutes . Some mothers really very competitive[kiasu]. Anyway, we told our dissatisfaction to the clerk and she made sure we get in next. Meanwhile she passed me some forms to fill in . After about 5-10 minutes[ good thing that lady isn't lo-so], we went in.

I told him i got Petronas offer for Geology.
*Mr Ong and clerk jaws dropped at that moment*
*followed by Wow~~*
*I stared at them puzzled blinking *
*Silence in awe for a while*

He told me that geology is a very good prospect and can earn a lot of money(like i don't know). He was very surprised that i want to appeal for Biotechnology when it is deemed like a lower rank compared to Geology. Oh well, passion is more important. Besides the difference in pay is not much . Research scientist for biotechnology in US dollars earns 50 000 US[basic i think]. For Geologist, its about 52 000-58 000 US dollars for a fresh graduate. Naturally the longer you are in that field, the higher the pay . Mr.Ong then flipped through my certs and only took one out[donno why] and photostated some of my documents. Mr.Ong said that it will be quite competitive but he will try his best. Anyway, i'll leave this matter to God to decide. If he gives i will take it .

A long update for me after a long break from blogging. I think that pretty wraps up most of it. Congrats to those who got JPA and happy studying for Lower 6 students. Who know you might get a better scholarship.

00o~ JPA please grant me 2nd selection

P/s: i heard Petronas have to fight for the students who applied JPA scholarship. Hmmm, am i that special? XD.....

P/s 2: go to Yayasan Sarawak to check whether you got the Skim Hadiah Pelajar Cemerlang. I didn't get it of course.

The JPA Poem

Sudden inspiration about the JPA scholarship while i was chatting with Daniel.

The JPA Poem

Tick tock tick tock.........
Goes the table clock
waiting for the scholarship
So that i can finally go to sleep

Waiting for the JPA results is killing
Nothing to do but just chilling
This paranoid thinking that goes through your head
i feel like i am almost *coughdeadcough*

Staring at the blank page before you
Refreshing the page till morning at 2
Pressing the button F5 for a sign
But there's still nothing , Oh you give a sarcastice "FINE!!"

We went to the interview during April 1st
We spoke too much till we thrist
Now we are thirsty again
Muttering the date of when JPA results which was planned

JPA Results where art thou
I feel like slaughtering a cow [no animals were harmed during the making of this poem]
I can hardly wait
For the results to be displayed!

Jesus, though i know that it would be hard for me to get JPA because i got petronas but i am leaving this matter into yout hands. Please intervene so that i can study biotechnology. Lord you know my real desire. And you mention in the bible that, anything we ask of your name it will be given unto us. Lord, i ask in your name, Jesus christ that i will get the JPA scholarship. Please help me because i am your son. Thank you lord, i believe that you will give me the scholarship. In Jesus name, amen.
HISTORICAL MOMENT!!!!!!!

I got PETRONAS SCHOLARSHIP offer!!!!
But i am still waiting for JPA though.

Thank you so much Jesus!!!

Anyway, i am offered to study Geology but i would be studying in Malaysia. Though its in Malaysia, i would be studying in local foreign institution like Monash, Swinburne etc... Most probably i would be going to Curtin because its the only institution i know which offers geology. Oh well. Still at least i get a scholarship. The reason i was offered local foreign institution (LFI) is because i mentioned in the interview that i don't mind studying in Malaysia or overseas.

But i still want JPA. Though i sound greedy but JPA scholarship is only one that i can fulfill my dream course which is biotechnology.

*floats in a faraway dream*

JPA scholarship

Sigh~
We have to wait longer again for the results. If you didn't notice they changed from "2nd week of May" to "Middle of May".

Hence, i would have to sign up for Form 6 and go for the teacher's interview unless i get Petronas sponsorship.

I was hoping that i need not to go for teacher's interview....its SO HARD. Have to study three one and a half inch books...and do latihan somemore....
